The Maryland Crabs is a podcast based in Annapolis Maryland which was launched in September 2016 after, quite literally years of hemming and hawing.  After a few false starts, many aborted concepts, we just took the plunge, whipped out the credit cards and lit Amazon on fire with equipment orders. And here we are!

This podcast is not about interviews. It’s about topics and conversations of interest to Marylanders!

We are not going to shy away from controversy or discomfort. Valuable conversations can emerge from them. We will not be adversarial for the sake of being adversarial, but you can expect some heated exchanges between Tim and John and Guests–or any combination of those.

About Guests–we're going to have plenty of them! Some will be local or regional in nature--others more broad.

And, we may even take this show on the road. Some night, you might find us propped on a bar stool at the Ebb Tide..or worse!

He's leaving!  After more than a quarter-century at the helm of St. John's College, Christoper Nelson is retiring! With that kind of tenure, we thought it woudl be a great time to invade his office and talk.

We covered all sorts of ground. From what makes St. John's unique, to how they insulate themselves from the political turmoil found on many campuses, to the changes he has seen in Annapolis and St. John's over his tenure.

We talked about the struggles the college faced during the recession, and the struggles all colleges are facing in today's world and what will be needed to thrive going forward.

Chris Nelson has left a mark on the institution and the town and our conversation brings it out. Did you know the Nelson is the longest serving president of ANY college or university in the state?  Now you do.

Chris leaves his post (and cushy office) at the end of June and will take a brief sabbatical while he organizes his new home, and then like Schwarzenegger in The Terminator---he'll be back.  Nelson will return as a Tutor (that's Johnnyese for Professor).

Not only does it elevate (or shatter) our egos, it really helps with getting the word out about this podcast. Thanks!

Looking ahead--Travis Pastrana, Congressman John Sarbanes,  a chat with the sponsor of the USS Sioux City--one of the Navy's newest battleships, the final (we think) Mayoral Candidate for Annapolis--Nevin Young, a discussion on tourism and its importance along with an exclusive talk with Annapolis' newest police chief--Chief Scott Baker! Plus, we have some kids that have decided to spill the beans on their experience at Anne Arundel County Public Schools!

Did you check out our Crabcake with John Tesh or the one with Nick Morrison? You should!

If you are just joining us.... make sure you check out some (or all) of our previous episodes? You really should. They could change your life. Granted, your life would have to be pretty bad. But still, we have some gems you will want to check out!  Most recently....

  • The Baltimore Ravens.  We got on the phone and talked about Play Like A Raven (coming up at Annapolis High), wha the team and players are doing out in the community and a look into the 2017 season!  Oh, and they gave us some tickets...no not to a game (we tried), but to their Play Like A Raven Clinic--details on how you can win at the end of the podcast
  • Crystal Spring or Providence Point. You can call it whatever you like; but the developers are pushing forward to bring a continuing care facility to the Forest Drive corridor in Annapolis. There are obstacles to overcome along with an election for Mayor. We talked with Larry Bradshaw, the CEO of National Lutheran Communities & Services who actually IS the developer. Check it out!
  • Fests. Fests. Fests. Get your party shoes on.  This episode we talk about all the festivals that are coming to town. Well, at least three that will be here shortly. The Naptown barBAYq, The Annapolis Irish Fesitval (absolutely), and the 50th Maryland Seafood Festival.
  • Angel Traynor from Serenity Sistas talks to the crabs about her addiction and recovery. How she went from jailhouse to running a company that provides transitional housing for recovering men and women. Hear about our heroin epidemic from someone on the front lines!
  • Congressman Anthony Brown sat down with the Crabs last week and talked about the Affordable Care Act under President Trump, the proposed slashing of funding to the Chesapeake Bay, military spending, and a little bit about his time with former Maryland Governor O'Malley and if he is ready to challenge President Trump in 2020.
  • Eastport Landing. The NIMBYS are alive and well and have proclaimed there shall be no development in Eastport. Well, that may not be possible, responsible, or even legal...so rather than ranting and raving, why not listen to the guy who is proposing to renovate and bring something new to an aging strip shopping center in Eastport.

Oh hell...just go back and listen to the ones you haven't heard!  And PLEASE be sure to tell your friends about us!

Better yet, go to iTunes or Google Play or iHeartRADIO and subscribe to our podcast and have them automatically delivered to your phone every time there is a new episode.
