Newly minted Annapolis Police Chief Scott Baker sat down with us
to talk about the future direction of the department. After a
nationwide search, the Mayor decided the best choice was a cop
right in the department (he was the #2 under former Chief Pristoop)
and one that had the respect of the rank and file officers.
We discussed his vision and the differences between him and the
older regime, the 30 plus outreach programs the Annapolis Police
Department currently has, the relationship between the department
and the council/mayor and the major issues facing him as
Chief--opioids, gangs, and establishing a trust with the citizens
of Annapolis.
What we did NOT talk about (because this news broke the day after
we recorded) was the recent allegations surrounding a lawsuit that
is to be filed alleging that an officer (who has since resigned)
stole $1500 from a citizen during an incident. Nor did we discuss
the latest incident involving "inappropriate contact" between an
officer and a citizen involved in an incident.
Coming up....a talk with the organizers behind the Travis Manion Foundation 911 Heroes Run, former County Executive John R. Leopold, the Chairman of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, and crabcakes with the Aldermanic candidates for the City of Annapolis
